Well, well, well. Just yesterday I confirmed my entry into the SOLO division of the Race Around Ireland for 2011.
Think of this race as the Irish answer to getting across or around an entire country by bicycle. How could I say no to that opportunity?
The race is 1350 miles long and I will have 132 hours to complete it. Do the math. It's not that fast, but what most of us (including myself every now and again) tend to forget is that the average speed of 10.23 mph to officially complete the race includes all the time from when the gun goes off in Navan, including potty breaks, sleep (yeah right), etc. So...it's best to just keep me out on the road as much and as long as possible and we'll get there in good time.
I'm psyched to be doing this race and am actively seeking crew (looking for about 4 total) and help with securing sponsorships, etc. Stay tuned for more details, but we will be throwing at least one fundraising party for the journey sometime in the late winter/early spring and I'll be posting frequent updates here and on the Team Switchback Facebook page.
Keep the rubber side down.
Tim
